Paris 2024
The Challenge
To support Paris’ bid to become Host City for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games by playing a leading role in shaping the overall narrative of the campaign, along with the design and implementation of a global media, communications and social media strategy. VERO was involved from the very beginning, working closely with the Paris 2024 Bid Committee to develop key strategies in a race that included Hamburg, Rome, Budapest, Boston and later Los Angeles.
The Outcome
On 13 September 2017, Paris was formally elected Host City of the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games following a historic double award by the International Olympic Committee, which saw main rivals Los Angeles secure the 2028 Games.
VERO’s Role
- Strategic counsel and advice on all elements of bid communications
- Led on design of campaign key messages and overarching global narrative
- Led engagement with specialist Olympic, bidding and international sports media
- Oversaw development of major speeches and presentations to ensure they aligned with overarching narrative
- Provided expert creative support to assist with development of campaign films, strapline and the design of presentations and other campaign collateral
- Coordinated international media management during major events such as:
- Paris 2024 campaign launch – June 2015
- Visit to Paris by IOC President Thomas Bach – October 2016
- International promotion phase launch – February 2017
- The IOC Evaluation Commission visit – May 2017
- Olympic Day celebrations – June 2017
- IOC Technical Briefing in Lausanne – July 2017
- Final election milestone at the IOC Session in Lima – September 2017
- Played a leading role supporting the promotion of the bid to international media and Olympic Family members at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games
- Drafted all major press releases and announcements in English
- Assisted with design of social media strategy and managed all English-language content for @Paris2024
- Provided 24/7 campaign press office function
