Andrew Parsons – Campaign to become International Paralympic Committee Presiden
The Challenge
To help secure the election of Brazilian Andrew Parsons as President of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) against three strong candidates.
The Outcome
On 8 September 2017, Andrew Parsons was elected President of the IPC in the first round of voting – he secured 84 votes against Haidi Zhang (47), John Petersson (19), and Patrick Jarvis (12).
VERO’s Role
VERO played a lead role in the design and implementation of the global media, communications and social media strategy, as well as the overall campaign messaging and narrative. Our specific role included:
- Strategic counsel and advice on all elements of campaign communications
- Supported the design of campaign key messages and overarching narrative
- Drafted major press releases
- Supported the drafting of the campaign manifesto and associated marketing collateral
- Managed media communication through the bid process, including media ’round tables’ with international and specialist media
- Advised on digital and social media activity
- Helped in the drafting of written communication with IPC family members
- Helped develop key themes in Andrew’s final speech to the IPC Congress
