Gianni Infantino – Campaign to become FIFA President

The Challenge

To help secure the election of Gianni Infantino as FIFA President VERO played a lead role in the design and implementation of the global media, communications and social media strategy, as well as overall campaign messaging and narrative.

The Outcome

On 26 February 2016, Gianni Infantino was elected FIFA President after a second round of voting resulting in the following votes: Gianni Infantino – 115, Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim al-Khalifa – 88, Prince Ali bin al-Hussein – 4, Jerome Champagne – 0.

VERO’s Role

  • Strategic counsel and advice on all elements of campaign communications
  • Led on design of campaign key messages and overarching narrative
  • Drafted all major press releases and announcements
  • Helped in the drafting of written communication with FAs
  • Led on the media management of a major press conference at Wembley Stadium involving over 100 international media
  • Managed all digital media activation including @Gianni_2016 Twitter account and campaign website
  • Provided 24/7 campaign press office function
  • Coordinated all international media relations activity including around election process in Zurich
  • Helped develop Gianni's final speech to the FIFA Congress in Zurich
