Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games Bid

The Challenge

To secure the selection of Buenos Aires as Host City of the 2018 Youth Olympic Games, bringing an Olympic event to Argentina for the first time after four previous bids for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Outcome

Buenos Aires was selected Host City for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games at the IOC Extraordinary Session in Lausanne, Switzerland in July 2013
Buenos Aires beat Medellin of Colombia in the final round of voting by 10 clear votes, from 49 to 39.

VERO’s Role

• Strategic counsel and advice on all aspects of the campaign from the outset working closely with bid leadership and the wider bid team
• Devised Buenos Aires 2018 key messages and campaign narratives
• Developed a proactive and creative communications plan to tell the compelling sporting & cultural story of Buenos Aires
• Developed a reactive communications strategy to negate any negative coverage
• Directed presentation and script development
• Presentation training for bid leadership, athletes and ambassadors
• Onsite support at key Olympic Family events
• Advised bid team and Buenos Aires city on advertising campaign strategy and implementation
